Description
From the Confire Industries sales pamphlet distributed by mail to particularly effluent people:
Is it really as comfortable as it looks? The Meridian Landvan sports very comfortable seating for six (including the driver) and provides a wide array of visual features for the most enjoyable pleasure excursions on foreign worlds. Your Meridian Landvan will fit with plenty of room to spare in any vehicle bay of at least 50.5 kilolitres. Load one into your yacht and enjoy.
Is it fast? Its 200 kilowatt (268 horsepower) brute of an engine puts a whole new meaning to speed.
Is it really a van? Its sleek, streamlined exterior allows it to maintain its top speed even in the densest planetary atmospheres, so the open road really is the open road. We believe that a vehicle should not slow down for something so frivolous as air.
Is it really high quality? All Meridian Landvans are made just for you when you order, using care and attention to detail not found in mass-produced vehicles that roll off an assembly line.[1] We provide a wide range of custom paint jobs and interior furnishings according to your tastes.[2] We also provide one of the best warranties in the business, at 10 years or 1,000,000 kilometres.[3] We stand by our workmanship.
Here at Confire, we believe in providing the utmost in quality transport vehicles for discriminating clientele. We hope you enjoy your Confire Meridian just as much as we enjoyed building it and delivering it to you.
As the Meridian is a pleasure vehicle, it is neither armed nor heavily armoured. Though it sports a five-star crash test safety rating, it is soft-skinned and cannot hope to survive an onslaught of any kind. If you anticipate entering a dangerous situation in your Meridian landvan, please understand that your warranty does not cover incidences of terrorist activity, nuclear disaster, armed insurrection, etc., nor does the warranty cover gross abuse or misuse of the vehicle.
Footnotes
- The Meridian Landvan does not receive a 20% discount for mass production after the first one has been built. All Meridians are built from scratch for the person ordering one. However, if a single person requests a fleet of Meridians, all Meridians after the first in the given "batch" will receive the 20% discount. The first van in a second batch is still full price.
- Add 5% to the cost for a custom paintjob -- select a character class that the paint job will be styled after. Add 5% to the cost to have an interior that has been panelled with authentic animal leather and/or with wood from exotic plants. A custom paintjob adds a +1 DM to reaction rolls when viewed by the character class it was designed for (e.g., if you are trying to impress nobles, you can choose a paint scheme that appeals to them (the actual details are abstracted)). A custom leather/wood interior adds a +1 DM to reaction rolls of any non-player characters of Soc-11 or less who are riding in the van, allowing passengers to be influenced a little more easily.
- Any mechanical failures before the warranty expires will be repaired free of charge at the nearest Confire automotive shop (though towing/freight charges to bring the vehicle to the shop are extra). During the first repair in the warranty period, the Confire company will overhaul the vehicle's Lifespan and Drivespan, if the owner wishes to allow them to do this (free of charge). Any subsequent repairs will then only serve to eliminate mechanical problems as they arise until the warranty period expires; the company will not provide a second free overhaul unless persuaded to do so (automatic -3 DM to any persuasion roll since the company deals with rich people all the time and isn't easily intimidated by the social elite). The warranty does not cover combat damage, crashes, rollovers, etc. (See my Reliability rules for information about mechanical failures.)

Numbers by themselves mean to add to the total. Numbers in parentheses mean to subtract from the total. Numbers prefaced by = symbols are the current total of the numbers in the column in the current section. Numbers prefaced by x symbols mean to multiply the current total by that number. Dashes mean "no change".
Final total of watts must be greater than or equal to zero (otherwise the vehicle consumes more energy than it has). Final total of litres must be greater than or equal to zero (otherwise the vehicle is too big for its hull). Final total of kilograms is the unloaded weight (not including fuel, ammunition, or cargo). Final total of Cr is base cost of vehicle.
