RCS:Aspect and Offset

To determine the path of a given projectile or focused beam directed at an enemy target, roll 1d6. The result is the projectile/beam's Aspect, which indicates whether the shot is "high" or "low".
The following table describes the possible aspects:
Die Aspect ---- ------------ 6 Very High 5 High 4 High 3 Middle 2 Low 1 Very Low
High appears twice because in general, people will aim for what they perceive to be the largest part of a vehicle, robot, or person. For a vehicle, this is the vehicle's canopy and payload. For a person or humanoid robot, this is the torso. In each of these cases, the centre of the biggest target area is above the mid-point of the target.
Next, roll another 1d6. The result of the second die is the projectile/beam's Offset, which indicates whether the shot is "left" or "right".
The following table describes the possible offsets:
Die Offset ---- --------------- 1 Far Left 2 Left 3 Centre Left 4 Centre Right 5 Right 6 Far Right
Aspect and offset apply only to focused attacks (attacks which, if they were to conceivably hit a target, would have a width that could be measured with a person's hands). Persons subject to area-effect attacks, such as people caught in the discharge from a starship spinal mount or in the blast radius of an explosive grenade or artillery shell, divide the damage into clusters of 1D6 points and then roll for the aspect or offset of each of these individual clusters.
